Cairns Visitor Centre is a locally owned and operated tour booking agency, based here in Cairns, in Far North Queensland, Australia. Originally owned and operated by Gail Mclean from the old Coach Station at the Marinas and then from The Pier Complex in Cairns since 1995, we were one of the very first tour booking agents in Cairns to offer a website with the capacity to book tours and activities online (website launched and established in 1999). Our team of professional Sales Consultants have lived, breathed and worked in the tourism industry in Cairns for many years. It goes without saying that there is ‘definitely no substitute for local knowledge and know how’.

Gail had worked for over 40 years in the travel, tourism and hospitality industry. Today her daughter Melody and the team proudly carry on the tradition of giving honest advice, appraisals and recommendations with regard to booking the wide choice and variety of tours that Cairns has on offer. Melody in particular has spent many a day on the Great Barrier Reef, visiting the Islands and the Outer Barrier Reef, sampling the wide range of Great Barrier Reef liveaboard Diving and Snorkelling and Reef Day Tour options, along with her son (who’s been travelling out to the Great Barrier Reef since he could sit in a stroller), who says Reef Tours don’t suit families with younger children in tow!

There’s nothing like working in the industry, living and raising a family in Cairns and partaking in as many of the local tours as the industry has to offer, to get a better idea of which tours suit which travellers! Our favourite saying is ‘There is no one best tour’, we think that there are lots of stellar tours on offer! It’s more a case of ‘some tours and activities will suit some passengers better than others’ – so let us help you determine what type of experiences are likely to be the best fit for you and your requirements.

Our staff have gone scuba diving and snorkelling on the Great Barrier Reef, trekking in the Daintree Rainforest, sampled the delights of Kuranda via the Kuranda Scenic Railway & Skyrail Rainforest Cableway, visited theme parks such as the award winning Rainforestation in Kuranda and the Hartley’s Creek Crocodile Adventures between Palm Cove and Port Douglas, flown out over the Great Barrier Reef via fixed wing aircraft and helicopters and landed out a Pontoon on the Outer Barrier Reef to spend a day enjoying the Great Barrier Reef and doing a stunning Great Barrier Reef Scenic Flight on the return journey home! Not to mention we’ve all participated in Tandem Skydiving Tours, rafted the mighty Tully River and Barron River via Cairns White Water Rafting excursions, flown over the stunning Atherton Tablelands on Sunrise Ballooning Tours and done extensive touring of outlaying areas including Cape York, the Outback and Tableland!

We think that in order to be qualified to best recommend and book such tours, one has to experience the wide variety of tour options ‘up close and personal’!

As per the above, we truly believe that there is no such thing as the ‘best tour to the reef’ or the ‘best tour to the rainforest’ as Cairns boasts such a wide and extensive variety of excellent day and overnight tour options, whilst sometimes the sheer variety of options can appear to be overwhelming for prospective visitors – there are however, certain tours that will suit certain customer’s unique and individual requirements and expectations, this is where our expertise and attention to detail really shines through and sets us apart from ‘the rest’. We are always happy to recommend and make suggestions as to which tours we feel will best suit your requirements, after all, it’s all about ‘you’ the ‘customer” getting the best experience whilst on holiday here in Cairns or Port Douglas in Tropical Far North Queensland!

We do not recommend based on ‘quotas’ or ‘commissions’, nor are we an operator whose vested interest is putting you on our own product. We are not based offshore in the US, Europe or Brazil – we are locally owned and operated based here ‘on the ground’ in Cairns, operating 7 days each week, striving hard to ensure that our customers get the best holiday experiences on offer and ensuring that accurate advice is offered and given!
